A neuropsychological evaluation assesses a range of thinking skills including IQ, attention, executive functioning, language, visual, motor, learning & memory, academic, adaptive skills, and social-emotional functioning. If an autism assessment is needed, it can be added to this evaluation. In person testing appointment takes place in Gaithersburg, MD.

Neuropsychological consultation may be helpful if you:
Are struggling to understand how to implement recommendations
Need help understanding the findings of an outside evaluation
Are unsure whether an evaluation is necessary, and need time to talk through your concerns
Would like Dr. Rau to consult with school professionals about your child’s needs (including attending IEP meetings)
A neuropsychological evaluation may be helpful when a child:
Is struggling in school but it is not clear why
You suspect or know your child has autism, ADHD, or a learning disability, and you want to understand their profile
Has a medical condition or diagnosis that affects thinking or learning (e.g., epilepsy, genetic diagnosis, history of a brain tumor or leukemia)
Has uneven skills — excelling in some areas while struggling in others
Is having behavioral or social-emotional difficulties that seem connected to how they learn or process information
